June 21, 2010 St. Hans Fest
Food- Roast pork, beer, snaps. Custom- Midsummer feast held on the longest day of the year. Dates back to Odin and Thor. Meant as a way of keeping evil spirits away. An effigy a witch is burnt which signifies all evil disappearing into the sky as the smoke and witch's ashes float away.

August 15, 2010 Viking Day
<p>Have you ever seen a Viking? You can at the Danish Canadian National Museum &amp; Gardens' annual Viking Day event! Be part of the fun and celebrate with food, entertainment, demonstrations by <a target="_blank" title="History Anew" href="http://www.historyanew.com/">History Anew</a> and re-enactments by <a target="_blank" title="Odin's Ravens" href="http://www.vikingscanada.org/odinsravens.html">Odin's Ravens</a>. Festivities begin at 11:30 am through to 5:30 pm with shows at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Complete your experience with lunch in the Dormitory Coffee House featuring our famous Danish open faced sandwiches and desserts. Two seatings by RESERVATION only at 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm ~ call 403.728.0019 to reserve your table. September 11, 2010 Viking Ship Visits Burnaby: Freydis Joanna West Coast Tour
<p>The <em>Freydis Joanna </em>Viking Ship is on display at the <a href="http://scandinaviancentre.org/scandinavian-centre/come-and-see-the-life-of-a-real-viking-ship/1594/" title="Scandinavian Community Centre">Scandinavian Community Centre</a> in Burnaby, BC from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.</p> <p>The <em>Freydis Joanna</em>&nbsp;will also be on display at the <a href="http://www.danishchurch.vancouver.bc.ca" title="Danish Lutheran Church, Burnaby, BC">Danish Lutheran Church</a> for their evening dinner fundraiser.</p> <p> </p>

November 6, 2010 Christmas at Julestue
Get ready for Christmas at Julestue held at the Spruce View Community Hall in Spruce View, AB. The Julestue bazaar features items from local crafters as well as Danish cuisine.
February 20, 2011 Fastelavn (date changes according to Spring Solstice)
Food- Buns baked with white flour. Custom- This custom may date back over a thousand years (Odin and Thor)- {40 days before Easter- the evening before the beginning of fasting}. Danish children went door to door, dressed similar to Canadian Halloween. At a costume ball they beat a cat out of a barrel, which then ran from the village, taking all things evil with it. Children rousted parents out of bed in the morning using a decorated willow switch.
